My first time podcasting 🗣️

Even though I love listening to podcasts, I've always been a little nervous to be featured on one. Why? Well, for starters, I cringe at the sound of my recorded voice - it sounds oddly unfamiliar from when I hear myself talk in real time. And second, I guess I've always been afraid to put myself out there.

But when I got the chance to be featured on Seneca Media's podcast, I thought, Why not? I just have to be myself. And that made it a whole lot easier to try something different and feel a little more confident.

Seneca Media's podcast is managed by Devin Andrade and Afshaan Purvez, and during our first meeting, they were incredibly friendly and open to my ideas for the podcast. That day, we ended up talking about all sort of things, from a recent guest lecture at Seneca College, to the #MeToo movement. Okay, so a lot of the conversation miiiight have been just me, rambling (as I often do). But despite this, somehow my mention of social media addiction and its portrayal by one of my favourite Netflix shows - Black Mirror - stuck with Devin and Afshaan.

Not too long after we met, they invited me to record for their podcast. I would be sharing my views on Black Mirror's episode "Nosedive" and my general thoughts on social media. Whoo! They liked my idea! I immediately emailed back, "Sure, sounds fun."

Bryce Dallas Howard in Netflix Original, Black Mirror

I've probably watched "Nosedive" about 4 or 5 times... it's that good. If you haven't seen it, watch it! It's one of the most eerily relatable episodes of Black Mirror and you'll find yourself rooting for Bryce Dallas Howard's character the entire time. I had to re-watch it the night before I came to campus to record for Seneca Media. Partly to take mental notes, but also to reward myself for getting my PR assignments done somewhat early in the evening. Still, I went to bed nervous for my first time podcasting.

The next day, the actual recording of the podcast was a lot smoother than I thought it would be! I was joined by Seneca Media's host, Professor Craig Robertson who teaches Journalism at Seneca, and Radio Broadcasting grad Fayth Starr. We had little time to chat before we started recording, but once we did, it was smooth sailing. Sure, there was a mic in my face, but it was surprisingly easy to not think about the fact that I was getting recorded and just focus on the conversation. Craig and Fayth were easy-going and as into the conversation as I was, which made it an enjoyable experience.

I don't want to give to much away, so here it is! Hope you enjoy listening.
