Why YOU should listen podcasts

Are you someone who either drives, takes the bus, subway, train, goes on walks, cooks, or folds laundry? Writing that out, I realize I've pretty much named the entire human population. This post for all of you, but specifically those of you who’ve never listened to a podcast, or tried but didn’t like it.

Here’s why you should get (back) into it!

  • Improve your listening skills – find yourself zoning out in class or a meeting at work? Use podcasts as a way to practice active listening.

  • Awaken your imagination – These days, it’s way too easy for us to rely on someone else’s visuals in order to learn or simply be entertained. With a podcast, you can actually let your imagination do the work.

  • Learn without eye strain – You’re probably straining your eyes all day from staring at your phone, computer or TV screen – give them a break! Avoid staring at a screen 24/7 and just listen and learn something new.

You might be thinking, Ummm but what about audiobooks? You could close your eyes, listen and learn something from those. And what about paperbacks or magazines? Well, keep reading…

  • Audiobooks can be SO long. The length of the majority of podcast episodes are, at most, an hour.

  • Paperbacks and magazines are a LOT heavier than a million podcasts. While I love a great paperback, it definitely adds extra weight to your bag or purse. Listening to a podcast means all you need on your next commute is your smartphone and headphones, which most people have these days.

So there you have it! Now that you’ve jumped (back?) into the wonderful world of podcasts, follow me @PodviewsBlog for more “podviews” coming soon!
